MILD: the intention

Setting the intention to notice in a dream that you're dreaming.

Well supported3 min read

A person asleep in bed, a glowing thread leading from them to a floating, half-open door in the starry dark.

MILD stands for Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams. You use your memory for intentions: just as you remember to buy bread on your way home, you remember to notice something in a dream.

How it works

  1. Remember the dream you just woke up from.
  2. Calmly tell yourself: “Next time I’m dreaming, I will notice that I’m dreaming.”
  3. Imagine you are back in that dream and recognize something strange.
  4. Repeat this until the intention sticks. Then fall asleep.

MILD works best right after the alarm in the second half of the night. Because you need a remembered dream for it, MILD is a good fit if you already remember dreams.
