SSILD: the senses round

Easy to learn and possible even without a remembered dream.

Well supported3 min read

A sleeper circled by three glowing orbs: an eye, a spiral like sound, and a warm orb like touch.

SSILD stands for Senses Initiated Lucid Dream. You move your attention in rounds through seeing, hearing and feeling. It sounds unspectacular, but it brings you into a state from which lucid dreams arise more easily.

How it works

  1. Eyes closed: notice the darkness behind your eyelids, without trying to see anything.
  2. Notice the sounds around you.
  3. Feel your body: weight, warmth, tingling.
  4. First four quick rounds of a few seconds, then four to six slow rounds with about 20 seconds per sense. Then simply fall asleep.

In the large field study, SSILD was just as effective as MILD. In a lab study from three countries, half of the participants had a confirmed lucid dream during two morning naps, including people with little experience. This study has not yet been peer-reviewed.
